Brazil - Bikes and Ducks!

Lucas' parents' neighborhood has two lakes and LOOOOOTS of geese!  We had a great time riding the bikes around the neighborhood and feeding the "ducks" everyday with our left over bread.  Lara wasn't quite sure what to think of the ducks, but she definitely LOVEd riding on the bike.  Too bad we can't find a bike seat like this one here...

"I love my Aunt Luiza!"

Here you go duck!

Chasing the ducks!

Like I said, there were a LOT of geese!

oh, and a neighborhood peacock!  Lara thought he was pretty cool.  Too bad we never saw him with his feathers out... pretty cool to see a peacock up close though (and yes grammy, they do make a pretty awful noise!)

Getting a little more brave by the last day!

Brazil - It was HOT!

As excited as we were to get to Brazil and enjoy the summer heat, we weren't quite ready for it yet!  It had been really cold here in Huntsville before we left, so it took some adjusting.  I have to say I'm ready to be back in the warmth though... summer can't get here fast enough!

Lara spent a lot of time without her shirt on during this trip!  ha!  I'm sure she'll really enjoy all of these pictures when she gets older!  I kept getting worried that she was getting too hot since there wasn't any air conditioning.  You'll see in later posts that we spent a lot of time in the pool as well!

Paradise in Marcos and Bete's backyard!  Love these hammocks!  I wish we had a place to put one at home!!!

Beautiful girl!

Hammock naps!  Simply the best thing ever!

Melts my heart!

Not sure what she's doing here....

Getting so big!  She ran around EVERYWHERE!

Sweet hugs for daddy!

Picking something out of the grass and then trying to eat it I'm sure... :-)

What is this?!

TWINS!  haha!

Ice cream is GOOOOOD!

Can you tell she liked it?!

Brazil - Crazy Morning Hair!

We took TONS of pictures in Brazil this time around, so I tried to group them a bit.  Most of these posts are in no particular order!  Hope you enjoy!

For those of you who know Lara, you know that her hair is pretty crazy, and keeps getting crazier the longer it gets!  She has some seriously curly hair, which I don't know quite what to do with, since my hair is board staight!  Anyways, we say a new level of craziness while we were in Brazil.  The humidity mixed with constant sweating = crazy curly, beautiful hair!  Ha!  I loved every minute of it, and I KNOW that Lucas did since he is always trying to convince me to leave her hair crazy rather than try to fix it in the morning. As you will be able to see from most of our pictures, I just kind of let her hair go while we were there.  With the humidity there wasn't a whole lot that I could do!  Love it though!  I hope that her hair keeps these curls.  I think they are so cute!

Trying out the morning juice.  She wasn't thrilled with the consistency... maybe next year!

A whole new level of curly!  Amazing!  ha!

Loving her some mangos!  She could eat an entire mango by herself... too bad we can't find good ones here!

Love it!

Look at all those teeth! :-)  And of course she decided to cut a tooth while we were there.  Cutting teeth + jet lag = grumpy Lara...

Mmmmm.... that was a GOOD mango! :-)

Haha - Love it!

I do miss the crazy hair a bit.  It seems so straight to me now that we are back home!  This summer will definitely be interesting now that it is so long!  I may have to call some of you curly headed people for advice! :-)

On our way to Brazil!

The day after Lara's 1st Birthday, we set off for our long adventure to get to Brazil.  This was our second time traveling to Brazil with Lara, but I knew it would be completely different traveling with a 1 year old compared to a 3 month old, and boy was it!!!

My parents and grandparents were still in town from Lara's birthday party, so dad took us to the airport so we wouldn't have to pay for parking while we were gone.  We learned from our last trip that we would just pay a little extra to fly directly out of Huntsville rather than drive to Nashville.  Two more hours added on to the trip was just too much!

Here's Lara waiting on our plane in Huntsville!

Love it!  Watching the people fueling the plane and putting the luggage on.  She thought it was pretty cool!

Making our airport juice.... We learned after this flight that you could actually take one cup of juice for a child... would have been nice to know, since the juice and water each cost about $4 each... they know they've got you don't they?!

Playing with her band-aid box from Grammy on our way to Washington D.C.

We left Huntsville about 11:00 AM and were en route to Washington Dulles Airport. Well, we arrived and the ground was COVERED in snow, and it was still snowing pretty well. We ended up having to wait about 45 minutes on the tarmac in front of our gate. Since we only had a 1.5 hour layover, we were a little concerned that we weren't going to make our connecting flight! Thankfully, the next flight left from the next gate over, so we made it just fine.

Snowing in Washington D.C.!  Since we were planning to head to the beach right when we got to Brazil, we thought it was pretty cool that we were going from snow to the beach!

Once we took off in Washington, we had to go get the plane de-iced, which of course took about an hour.... We were supposed to fly from Washington to Orlando (just a note: we will NEVER have this many flights with this short of layovers ever again!  Ha!)  We had about a two hour layover, so we thought we would be fine even with the 1 hour delay... well, once we got to Orlando, we had to go BACK THROUGH SECURITY!  Seriously?!  And it took forever, so as we are RUNNING through the airport, we are all getting a bit grumpy that we hadn't had a single second to relax and get some food.  But, we made it in time and were ready to go on our long flight to Brazil! (and hoping that Lara was worn out enough to sleep through it all!)

Watching cartoons on the flight to Brazil!  So cute :-)  The headphones only stayed on for about 5 minutes, but she enjoyed 101 Dalmations while it lasted :-)

She did miraculously well, and slept the entire flight!  Yay!

Waking up in the morning... At least one of us got some sleep.  They of course did not have a bed for her this time (even though we had called several times to request a bassinet... so she had to sleep on us for the whole flight...)  We will definitely go back to flying Continental next time!  But like the trooper she is, she was fabulous and slept pretty much from after dinner was served until we got to Sao Paulo!

Ready to see all the family!  Yay!
