ANDREW is FINALLY home!!!!!!!!

Many of you know the story, and many of you don't, but our friends Mark and Staci have been in the process of adopting a little boy named Andrew from Guatemala for the last 21 months. It has definitely been a journey for them, and Staci has actually been living in Guatemala as Andrew's foster mom for the last 2 months until the paper work could be completed.
But all this to say that they are now HOME in the USA! We all went up to the airport last night and welcomed them home! It was SO wonderful to see Mark and Staci with Andrew in their arms. Most of my pictures didn't turn out very well because I had the camera on the wrong setting! Grrr... but I'll put up several anyways because I know you guys want to see this sweet little boy! Waiting for their arrival Welcome Home Sign Taylor with her Welcome Home sign in Spanish and English. So Cute! Benjamin with his sign "Holla Woo-Hoo" haha And they ARRIVE!!!! Notice Andrew hanging on for dear life to Mom's neck! He wasn't quite sure what to think... at first! Andrew with Mommy - Not sure sure about all of these people around him! Lillie coming over to see Andrew - Now it's time to PLAY!!! All of the kids were SO excited to meet him. I'm sure that their parents have been talking about this day with them for a long time! One of the only pictures I got where Andrew is actually looking at me! Look at those beautiful eyes!!! He is not just the cutest thing?! haha I think that Hannah Claire thought he was a toy! She did NOT want to let him go! haha love this one! There's that sweet smile! Would you look at those dimples!?! Surrounded by blond headed girls... This will be the story of his life! Everyone is so excited to see Andrew! Warming up to the crowd! Ready to go..... Fernanda and her mom were one of Staci and Andrew's roommates in Guatemala. She got to come home with her family last week!!! They came to welcome Andrew to Alabama. She had this smile on her face the ENTIRE time they were there! So cute! Andrew was running around everywhere with this cute smile! So happy to be with Daddy! Haha cracks me up... Andrew the super hero! Bailey with Andrew - He was laughing because I kept saying his name and he would NOT look at the camera. Pretty cute though! :-) And last but not least... Andrew giving daddy a big kiss on their way out! We have been SO blessed to see God work through this family! Andrew is truly a miracle and we are so glad to FINALLY have him here!!!!

To the Movies with Lincoln

Saturday we took our friend Scott and Ruthanne's little boy to the movie theater for his 4th Birthday. A little belated, but hey, it's the thought that counts! Ruthanne had told me that he had only been to the movies a couple of times in his life and that he would really enjoy it. I honestly think that we enjoyed it more than him... :-)
Lucas and Lincoln as we are going into the movie! You can't really tell, but Linc was spinning around in circles around Lucas. He was just a little excited! We went to see "Fly Me to the Moon." It was a pretty cute movie and was in 3D, so Lincoln was excited about getting to wear sunglasses in the dark. Lucas and I got popcorn and a drink, which we hardly ever do, but then again, we hardly ever go to the movie theater... And we got Lincoln a kids trey with a drink, popcorn and candy. Lincoln wanted to make sure that the people giving him the popcorn did not give him too much... not sure why, but he was very persistent about this! Of course during the movie he ate every last crumb! Must have been good! He seemed to really like the movie and kept asking me why this happened or why that happened. He was also very excited about the rockets in the movie (Then again, his dad does work for NASA!) When we got out of the movie, there were several clowns making balloon animals, face painting and juggling. I'm not sure what the occasion was, but Linc was definitely excited!
Lincoln and "Misah" Lucas waiting to get a balloon animal! Lincoln with his balloon cat that he named "Katie-Watie." Very original since his real cat's name is Katie.
Funniest moment of the day: Clown says to Lincoln after making him the balloon cat, "Make sure to clean up after him." Lincoln to the clown with a very serious face, "But, she doesn't go poopy!" All in all a good day! Makes us realize how much different life would be with a kid....

Job Interview.....

Well, yesterday was the day that I have been waiting for! A couple of months ago, my boss told me about a job opportunity that might come up soon, so I have been kind of trying out the position over that last few months to see if it is something that I would like to do and something that they thought I was good enough to do. I have absolutely LOVED doing the things I have been doing, so of course I am hoping that it works out for the best! I had an interview yesterday with my previous boss, my current boss and my maybe to be boss. It was interesting interviewing with people that I already know, but I was not too worried about it, because I feel like I can explain myself well, or at least admit if I don't know something and make sure that the interviewers understand that I am more than willing to learn! But, the interview went fabulously! I will have to wait and see what happens! Hopefully I'll hear something next week, and hopefully I'll get a nice little raise.... Would be nice!!!! Current job Title: Manufacturing Technician II - Department, Manufacturing Hopefully to be job Title: Process Development Associate II - Department, Engineering and Reliability I'm super excited and I'll keep you guys posted! Love to all!

Brazil.... Here we come!!!!

We bought our tickets yesterday to go visit Lucas' family. I am so excited! It has been over two years since we have been able to go see them! It really stinks that Lucas only has two weeks of vacation a year... It really limits what we can do! Unfortunately this will be our only trip for the year, but it's going to be a good one, so it's worth it!! I sure do miss all that vacation time we had when we were in school and would go to Brazil for a month over Winter Break! I guess that they always say... "When you have the time, you don't have the money, and when you have the money, you don't have the time..." Except for when you retire!! My parents are also going to get to come with us!! I love them being retired! :-) Trip is set for January 13-26, 2009! Anyone want to watch a PRECIOUS dog for two weeks?!?!?!? :-)

3...2...1... GO! Triathlon Time!

We ran the Triathlon this weekend! This is the second year that we have run this tri. 3.1 miles running, 6 miles biking, 400 meters swimming..... It was extremely hard but pretty fun! It was only about 65 degrees here that morning and a little rainy, but perfect for a big race! I would much prefer this weather to hot and humid! Lucas and I trained for it for about 2 months (I am so proud that he did it with me)! I always of course wish I would have done better, but the motto of the race is "To Finish is to Win!" So I guess since we both finished that we are both WINNERS!!! Of course my time would have been a little faster if I had not run all the way to the pool from my bike and realized that I had forgotten my goggles on my bike... OOPS!!!!! Silly me! Here is the website if you want to see our results! hahaha! Don't get too excited, it's not like we went in world record pace or anything! http://www.huntsvilletrackclub.org/results/index(r).htm Unfortunately we didn't have our camera with us, so no pictures from this one! Maybe some of our friends from church took a couple. If we find some we'll put them up! We have several friends that like to run, so I think we are going to try to run several races this fall. My friend Annie and I are running a 5K in 2 weeks, and I am trying to get Lucas to join! Then there is a Duathlon in October that I am going to start training for as soon as my body recovers from yesterday! Duathlon is 3 miles Running, 10 miles biking and then 2 more miles running! Doesn't that sound like fun?!?!? I'll try to keep you all updated!

End of a fun camping trip

When we got back from camping we decided to grill some hot dogs and eat smores! We roasted our marshmellows over the grill fire. Not quite as good as over a campfire, but a very close second!

Grill Man Lucas fixing us some hot dogs. Lexi is hoping that he'll just drop one!

Girls roasting some smores... yummy!!!!!

Look at the beautiful sunset that we saw while we were eating our hot dogs! Wait what is that in front of the sun? Yes, a GIANT hot air balloon. Very random, but pretty cool!

Here is the hot air balloon coming over our house... it was pretty close!

View from the front yard!

Cute Hailey in the grass.

And she is WORN OUT! haha I couldn't find her anywhere in the house, but then I saw her like this and just had to take a picture!

Camping!

We went camping this weekend to South Cumberland State Park in Tennessee. We had a great time for the most part, but do have some interesting stories to tell now!

We went camping with some of our friends from church, Ryan and Amanda and Matt and Elise. We set off together on Friday afternoon and arrived at the campsite that evening. Of course by the time we got there, it was already dark... I sure do wish we would have had that extra hour of sunlight that you Texans have! Anyways, we got our tents set up using the headlights of our cars, and then thankfully the campsite had a bathroom facilities, so Lucas and I went and filled up our air mattress! Ok, I know you might be thinking that that is not real camping, but believe me I feel better in the morning than I would if I slept on the ground! :-) Once we had everything set up, we sat around and chatted for a while, but we were pretty much beat from a week of work and knew that we wouldn't be able to sleep in much in the morning, so we were off to bed!

Well, sleeping was interesting... with probably about a million tree frogs croaking in sync. (I thought this was really nice and peaceful until we were trying to go to sleep!) And then the threat of rain... But, I finally did fall asleep and then about 4 in the morning I start hearing this sounds... and what could it be but ROOSTERS in the middle of the forest! I was like, you have got to be kidding! So, needless to say, we were up pretty early!

After everyone ate a little camp style breakfast, we were off to do some serious hiking! 6 adults, 3 dogs, lots of water and some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to hold us over! We had to drive to the trail, and thank goodness that Ryan had a GPS or we might have never made it there! We got there and it was starting to rain... of course. But, we waited it out a little and then were on our way! Thankfully since we were up in the Smokies it was only about 75 degrees, because the humidity after the rain had to have been at 100%! The hike was beautiful though, and the dogs had a GREAT time! We found a waterfall, but not much water, but it was enough for Hailey to get completely wet!

Ryan and Amanda with dog Sandy.

Matt with dog Lexi (you can only see the very tip of her nose!

Funny picture of Hailey... but she was having a blast!

Lucas on top of a beautiful waterfall. Not much water this time of the year, but still a gorgeous spot!

Hailey is thinking really hard about getting in that water......

And there she is. In the water. Her and one of the other dogs that came along, Lexi (a black lab) chased each other through the water for quite a while. It was pretty funny!

So pretty!

She really had fun fetching rocks in the water... apparently this is a game that never gets old!

Well the hike was beautiful. We hiked around 7 miles we think... not exactly sure. The mountains were gorgeous! And, there are hundreds of trails to explore in this area. We will definitely be coming back!

The fun of the trip began when we got back to the campsite... We were all exhausted and very dirty, so we were all going to take showers and then come back and relax/take a nap and then cook some hotdogs. Well plans changed when we found a huge yellow jacket next in the ground right behind our truck. We had seen them flying around... but once we found the nest we decided to go get the camp manager and see what we could do. She let us know that this is the season for yellow jackets and that there was not much that she could do... we have noted this for future camping trips! We all moved our cars to another campsite across the way. Well her solution was to pour gasoline in the nest and then spray a TON of bug spray everywhere... I'm not convinced that it did much, but we were determined to not let it spoil our time. So we moved our chairs to another campsite so we could sit around and not 5 minutes later they had followed us over there... Then about 10 minutes later a GIANT tree branch fell to the ground right where our truck and our friends explorer had been sitting. If we wouldn't have moved our cars then it would have been an interesting ride home.... So thank God for the yellow jackets!

Then we decided to build a campfire and while Matt was cutting some wood, he found another yellow jacket nest and was unlucky enough to get stung 6 times... at this time we were all pretty much ready to go home, even though we had already paid for the 2nd night and there were no refunds... so we packed up our stuff and headed home.

And aren't we glad we decided to leave...

This is what we saw as we were leaving to go home... That would not have been fun in a tent!

We made it home and decided to cook hotdogs at our house and make some smores on the grill afterwards! It was quite tasty and a good end to our camping trip! We really did have a great time, and now have many stories to tell!

Retirement Party - PART 1

My parents both retired in May, and came up to spend some time with us. We wanted them to get to meet some of our Alabamian (does that sounds weird to anyone else?!?!) friends, so we had a cookout as kind of a retirement celebration for them! It turned out to be a great time with friends and I couldn't be happier that my parents are having a blast in retirement!
Kris is getting into "Corn hole." This is a new game that we discovered here. I think for the sake of those reading this I'll just call it "Bagg-0" :-)

The cutest dog in the world - My Hailey! :-)

Mom in action... I'm standing by, anxiously awaiting...

Ashley and Annie taking a turn.

Kris and one of the cutest little boys in the world - Lincoln
Grill Man! Cooking us some burgers and hotdogs.
Lincoln trying to get the balls untangled for "Texas Golf" or as they call it in Alabama, "Ladder Golf." I like the first one better, but maybe I'm just a little partial! :-)

Now that takes talent... Lucas playing Texas Golf holding his drink with his plate full of food balanced on top... That's my honey! haha!

Wii Tennis with four people... I thin it was more challenging to try to not hit each other than to actually play! LOVE that Wii! :-)
